Musical instruments are meant to restore and reclaim traditional music forms. The folk music is always easy on the ears and the experience that one gets after listening to it is undoubtedly incomparable to modern fusion music. One of the instruments still used in remote villages in order to bring those in use is “Kael”. Kael is basically more like a traditional trumpet which has got its own relevance in Dogra( J&K, north India) households.

Marriage is considered as the union of two souls thus letting two people to make an indissoluble bond. The rituals help in purification of the mind and body of the husband and the wife who embark on a lifelong journey. “Kael” is used on many occasions during a Dogra marriage.

When the haldi ceremony i.e., the application of haldi happens, people are told to gather at a particular place with the help of “Kael”. The hairdresser of the village is supposed to use “Kael” and give a signal so that people can understand that the ceremony is about to start. Similarly, when the lunch on the marriage is ready to serve, the Kael is blown.

So, “Kael” is sounded to inform people about a certain activity so that they can gather at one place and perform that task. Now-a-days, people are leaving behind all these traditions so it is high time that we embrace traditional values stepping forward in our lives by experiencing the evolving traditions.
